The 2024 European Conference on Educational Research (ECER) was held in Nicosia, Cyprus, in August. The conference gathered over 2,500 scholars from across Europe under the theme ‘Education in an Age of Uncertainty: Memory and Hope for the Future’.
This flagship event, which is held annually by the European Educational Research Association (EERA), provides an inclusive platform for researchers and academics to share and discuss educational research.
During the 2024 conference, the Agency presented a paper on ‘Establishing a Culture of Effective Communication in Education: Building Resilience and Fostering Well-Being in Times of Uncertainty’. The paper was linked to the Building Resilience through Inclusive Education Systems activity’s Guidance for Establishing a Culture of Effective Communication in Education. The Guidance encourages decision-makers to reflect on and improve the communication structures and processes in place in their education systems.
Agency representatives Margarita Bilgeri and Amélie Lecheval highlighted the Guidance’s well-being framework, which is based on effective communication, and shared aspirations for creating safe learning environments, enhancing emergency preparedness and fostering community support. They also outlined how the practical tools and strategies suggested in the Guidance can support the building of resilience and well-being in education systems, as shown in experiences from implementing the Guidance in Estonia, Germany, Greece, Ireland and Sweden.
Other speakers at the conference included professors and researchers from across Europe. Celebratory events also took place to mark the 30th anniversary of EERA. Find out more about the conference on the ECER website.
