The Regional Centre for Support of the Process of Inclusive Education in Sofia, Bulgaria, and the National Association of Resource Teachers (NART) are co-organising a European conference entitled ‘Resource teachers and special educational needs in inclusive education’ on 7 February 2023.
The conference will bring together education stakeholders, including teachers, pedagogy students and representatives from the Regional Centres for Support, which provide specialist support to schools and learners across Bulgaria.
In the first session of the day, representatives from the Regional Centre in Sofia, Sofia University and Plovdiv University will present on practical topics related to inclusive education. These include occupational therapy in schools, the needs of learners with sensory and multiple disabilities, and Montessori pedagogy.
In the afternoon, the conference will welcome international speakers. Andriana Stathakopoulou from Goethe University, Frankfurt, Germany, will outline the inclusive education system in Germany, and how teachers ensure learners with special educational needs are included in the classroom. Tessa Morton from the United Kingdom’s Act for Autism will examine the classroom from the perspective of learners with autism, and Goran Petrushev, President of the Union of Special Teachers and Rehabilitators of the Republic of North Macedonia, will explore special needs assessment in North Macedonia.
The conference is aimed at all stakeholders in inclusive education. There will be opportunities to share best practices and discuss the topics with the speakers.
