A quality curriculum paves the way to the effective implementation of inclusive and equitable quality education. The UNESCO International Bureau of Education (IBE), an international organisation working in co-operation with the Agency on a number of projects, has now published a second issue of the In-Progress Reflections series on Current and Critical Issues in the Curriculum and Learning, addressing the question: what makes a quality curriculum? This paper shares a series of guidelines and recommendations for designing, developing and assessing a quality curriculum.
What Makes a Quality Curriculum? is available for download and users can join the conversation on this topic on a dedicated webpage on the IBE website. On this page IBE also shares a presentation of the main points addressed in the document, a series of videos engaging educational and curriculum experts in discussing around the main features of a quality curriculum, and a wall to interact and provide inputs to deepen the discussion on a quality curriculum.
Another related resource also available here is the Reaching Out to All Learners: a Resource Pack for Supporting Inclusive Education.
As part of the IBE series of Training Tools for Curriculum Development, this resource pack shares a broader understanding of the theory and practice of inclusive education to review national policies and support its effective implementation at the school and classroom level. It provides comprehensive guidance for national policy makers, curriculum specialists and developers, teachers, teacher educators, school leaders and district level administrators.
The Resource Pack can be used to support field work, policy dialogue and capacity development.
