The Agency is happy to announce the appointment of Dr João Costa as our new director from 1 January 2025.
Dr Costa will take over from the current director, Dr Cor J. W. Meijer, who, after almost 20 years in the Director’s chair, will leave for a well-deserved retirement at the end of 2024.
Until recently, Dr Costa was professor of linguistics at Nova University, Lisbon. From 2015–2024 he worked in the Ministry of Education in Portugal, as Secretary of State for Education, Deputy Minister of Education and, from 2022–2024, as Minister of Education.
Dr Costa brings to the Agency a wealth of knowledge and experience in the fields of inclusive education, education policy and leadership.
The Agency welcomes Dr Costa’s appointment and looks forward with confidence to working with him in the coming years.
