Norway’s National Forum for Teacher Education and Professional Development (NFLP) held its annual experience conference on 7 April in Oslo.
Over 180 participants attended the conference, which explored ways to strengthen the teaching profession, particularly in the face of increasing diversity and technological advances. Speakers gave perspectives from Norway and across Scandinavia and beyond.
EASNIE Director João Costa presented about both EASNIE and the OECD, from the perspective of his role as Chair of the Advisory Group of the OECD ‘Future of Education and Skills 2030’ Global Forum. He described the OECD Teaching Compass, which is currently in development following the launch of the Learning Compass in 2019. It focuses on elements such as teacher well-being, preparedness and agency. Dr Costa also highlighted the importance of teacher training for inclusive education, with a focus on EASNIE’s Profile of Inclusive Teachers and the Teacher Professional Learning for Inclusion activity.
Other speakers included representatives from the Norwegian Ministry of Education, researchers and professors from universities in Norway, Denmark, Finland, Iceland and Sweden, and school principals. The conference also included a group work session, where all participants were invited to discuss the competencies they feel teachers will need over the next ten years and what should be included in future teacher education frameworks.
More information about the conference is available (in Norwegian) on the Norwegian Education Federation website.
