A peer-learning activity took place in early October as part of work to build capacity for cross-sectoral collaboration at national and regional levels. The activity was part of the Agency’s Thematic Country Cluster Activities (TCCA) Cluster 5, on Collaborative Action for Inclusive Education (CAFIE).
The peer-learning activity, which was held in Stockholm, Sweden, brought together representatives from five of the cluster countries – Belgium (French community), Germany, Hungary, Slovenia and Sweden. A total of 16 participants attended, representing education ministries, stakeholder agencies and research institutions.
The activity focused on the need for cross-sectoral collaboration in education and how to build capacity with all sectors on board. The event’s hosts gave a presentation on regional-level collaboration in Sweden, which explored legal requirements, policy movements and essential leadership practices. Regional collaboration approaches were examined through a case study and a panel discussion on implementing cross-sectoral collaboration at different governance levels. Participants also examined leadership for cross-sector collaboration to ensure children’s rights as a critical factor for inclusive education.
These discussions will feed into the activity’s next steps, which will include identifying key concepts and challenges for cross-sectoral collaboration as a crucial element in inclusive education systems development.
A second CAFIE peer-learning activity is planned for spring 2025.
