The Jean Monnet programme supports initiatives and research on European integration and unity. It was launched by the European Union (EU) in 1989. Thirty years later, in 2019, it continues to promote dialogue between stakeholders around the world and enable research on EU policies.
To mark the 30th anniversary of the programme’s launch, the European Commission is celebrating ‘Jean Monnet – 30 years of Excellence in European Studies’. Universities, academics and institutions are encouraged to organise and hold events to commemorate and reflect on the past, present and future of European integration. The Jean Monnet Team in the Commission has set up a Facebook group where information can be found and shared.
The Agency has been involved in the Jean Monnet programme since 2007. The Agency is one of the seven European institutions supported with an operating grant under the Jean Monnet initiative, first within the EU Lifelong Learning Programme 2007–2013 and then the EU Erasmus+education programme (2014–2020). Involvement in the Jean Monnet programme has enabled the Agency to undertake activities which benefit all Agency member countries at a European level.
