Teachers' day may be on a different day in your country, as in most cases they celebrate a local educator or an important milestone in education. These days are an opportunity for students and the community to show their appreciation for the work of teachers.
Since 1994, World Teachers' Day has been celebrated on 5th October. According to UNESCO this day represents "a significant token of the awareness, understanding and appreciation displayed for the vital contribution that teachers make to education and development."
This year's celebrations will focus on quality teachers for global citizenship and cultural diversity. Around the world events will take place to commemorate this day.
