Εnsuring ethical societies: Agency autumn bi-annual meeting The bi-annual meeting of Agency country representatives took place in Warsaw, Poland, in November. The Agency’s member country representatives said farewell to Agency Director Cor J. W. Meijer and Assistant Director Amanda Watkins, who will both step down at the end of December. Meeting attendees had the opportunity to meet the incoming Director and discuss Agency work. The Polish Ministry of National Education also held a seminar on implementing inclusive education, ahead of the Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2025.

European Agency Statistics on Inclusive Education Cross-Country Report for 2021/2022 school yearThe Agency has published the latest European Agency Statistics on Inclusive Education (EASIE) Cross-Country Report for the 2021/2022 school year. A record 33 countries submitted data, which is used to calculate indicators relating to access to and placement in inclusive education or otherwise.

Thematic Country Cluster Activities As part of its aim to be an active agent for change, the Agency is working to address its member countries’ priorities through Thematic Country Cluster Activities (TCCA). Groups of countries work together to translate shared policy priorities for high-quality inclusive education for all learners into practical actions for implementation.
Peer-learning event highlights learner participation
Representatives from the Learner Participation in Inclusive Education (LPIE) activity met in United Kingdom (Scotland) to visit local schools and engage directly with learners. An external consultant delivered a keynote presentation on monitoring and evaluating participation.

Inter-sectoral co-operation to meet learners’ diverse needs: international seminar
This seminar was part of the Advancing Collaboration in Education (ACE) activity. It highlighted the importance of different sectors, such as education, health and labour, working together to provide inclusive education that responds to learners’ diverse needs.

Peer-learning activity on monitoring and accountability
The Quality Assurance, Monitoring and Accountability (QAMA) activity is working to develop a framework for multi-level, multi-stakeholder quality assurance. A peer-learning activity in Spain allowed participants to share information on quality assurance processes at school, regional and national levels in their countries.

Peer-learning event highlights cross-sectoral collaboration
This peer-learning event took place as part of the Collaborative Action for Inclusive Education (CAFIE) activity. It focused on the need for cross-sectoral collaboration in education and how to build capacity with all sectors on board.

Individual country support: Technical Support Instrument The Agency is working as a technical provider for several actions under the European Commission’s Technical Support Instrument (TSI). The Directorate-General for Structural Reform Support (DG REFORM) co-ordinates and provides tailor-made technical support to European Union Member States via TSI actions, in co-operation with the relevant Commission services. Promoting inclusive education in Greece
In September, representatives from the Greek Ministry and the Agency presented the Implementation of the European Child Guarantee – Promoting Inclusive Education in Greece, Phase 2 project results to over 200 participants. The project aimed to serve as a strong foundation for inclusive education in Greece and support a shift towards more inclusive practices.

New report on legislation and policy on inclusive education in Finland and Ireland
The Agency has recently produced a report on the legislative framework for inclusive education in Finland and Ireland, as part of a multi-country TSI project. The report, entitled Findings report on the legislative framework of inclusive provision, analyses the current legislative and policy framework for inclusive education in Finland and Ireland, at legal, institutional and governance levels.
